THE NEW WALKABOUT AT WEHR

For six year supporters of Wehr Nature Center, Nature in the Parks and the Friends of Wehr have gathered on a weekend in May to hike the trails and raise money for environmental education efforts. Thanks to our many individual and corporate sponsors the once a year fundraiser, Walkabout at Wehr has brought in over $49,000.  Two hundred fifty volunteers made it happen for a total of 650 walkers who enjoyed the camaraderie of a spring walk.  Walkabout  has served as a great way for Wehr to spotlight the good work we do bringing nature to children and to raise our profile in the larger community. But as a once a year happening, Walkabout has been limited in bringing in the funds we need to really make a difference to the children of Milwaukee.  So this year Walkabout at Wehr is morphing into a new phase.  This coming year we will progress into a fundraiser program called Kids in the Park.

The new Kids in the Park initiative will be an on-going campaign to raise the funds we need to fulfill our mission of bringing environmental education to children of all ages and backgrounds in the Metro Milwaukee area. This campaign will help us spread awareness about the importance of nature to the healthy development of children and raise needed funds to continue the education programs at Wehr and Nature in the Parks. 

A strong goal of the Kids in the Parks program is to meet the increased need of fieldtrip sponsorships.  Wehr Nature Center has always provided sponsorships to low-income schools for fieldtrips but now more than ever schools need our continued support.  Help us do what we do best – getting kids out and exploring in the parks.  We hope that support from corporations, foundations and folks like you can help us reach more children.
