Community Science help needed! We will be counting wintering birds at Wehr Nature Center, as well as many other sites within the southern half of Milwaukee County. You’ll meet some talented and persistent birders as we observe birds in the most important and longest-running nationwide bird count. This count contributes to long-term population trends data. Beginners and experienced birders welcome. Please email Carol at carol.howard@milwaukeecountywi.gov for more information and to register.

New this year! Accessible birding options at Wehr from 9 am-2 pm

On Sunday, December 19, Wehr Nature Center in Franklin WI (Milwaukee County) is participating in the 122nd Christmas Bird Count and will be serving as an accessible site. We will have specific outdoor and indoor options for beginner and advanced birders who would like to be stationed in one location.  A 1/3-mile outdoor boardwalk loop trail through the wetland is also an option.

Those joining us for any amount of time between 9 am and 2 pm will contribute to a national database of community science. Expert birder staff and volunteers will be available to share identification and recording tips to officially report the sightings.

Difficulty: For detailed accessibility information on this location, please visit Wehr Nature Center Accessibility Assessment
