Have you thanked a plant today? Plants not only create the oxygen we breathe, and all the food we eat (that photosynthesis thing is really important!) they give us the drinks that make our mornings bearable and our evenings more enjoyable. Join us for a series of lively, interactive online discussions about the botanical origins of our favorite brews featuring Dr. Chris Tyrell, Curator of Botany at the Milwaukee Public Museum and local botanical beverage specialists. We will highlight some of the fascinating factoids included in The Drunken Botanist by Amy Stewart. For instance, did you know that colonial Americans made a low-alcohol birch beer from the sap of our native birch tree?

Sessions will highlight the science and history of botanical beverages such as coffee and tea, beer, whiskey and liquors, as well as healthful brews like kombucha and lemonade. Our local beverage specialists will help us learn how to create these elixirs at home!

The Brews and Botany Series includes three, one-hour programs shared via Zoom and recipes to create your own botanically inspired drinks (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) at home.
